Save on central heating

Central heating is the norm in many homes in the United Kingdom. Whilst most are functioning well their gas economy could be better with a few minor changes to the houses heating controls. You can determine when the central heating and the hot water are running by installing a basic timer switch or more complicated central heating programmer. This limits energy use to only those times of the daytime when hot water or heating are required.

Room warmth level thermostats can also be installed to switch off the heating system when a particular heat level is achieved. Once the correct temperature is reached the heating is turned off cutting gas use. Each rooms warmth level can be separately controlled by fitting radiator thermostat valves. This is helpful in keeping the bedrooms cooler than the main living room.

Aging heating boilers are a major source of gas inefficiency. A central heating boiler has a typical lifetime of 15 years. Substantially less gas is consumed by modern gas boilers as they are more efficient. If you fit a modern condensing central heating boiler you could find economies of up to forty percent. They extract heat from the exhaust gases and use it to heat your water. Government grants are often accessible for dwellings which install one of these form of new gas boilers.
